Sarah Palin Breaks the Mold - Resigns - Outsmarting Her Tormentors Once Again

Liberal's love to hate her, even trembling with rage at the mere mention of her name. Sarah Palin marches to the beat of her own drummer. A Patriotic American Drummer

advertisement

Seizing the moment unexpectedly once again, Sarah Palin has sucked all the oxygen out of all the Newsrooms from coast to coast. Planned newscasts have ground to a standstill as she dominates the 24 Hour News Cycles

Today, Sarah Palin announced not only that she would not seek re-election as Governor of Alaska, but also that within a few days she will be turning over the governorship to her Lt. governor

She reminded Americans that with all the negative attacks on herself, her children and her family, the taxpaying residents of Alaska have had to shell out a few million dollars to defend the governor's office against a continuing series of blatantly frivolous ethics lawsuits. There were 15 that were simply spiteful, hateful attacks and ankle biting, eant to hurt the people of Alaska by subjecting Sarah Palin to the bloodletting of a thousand tiny cuts

Those 15 ethics complaints have all been dismissed, but the citizens of Alaska have been greatly inconvenienced b mostly outside interest groups, and the Governor herself is out of pocket about a Half million Dollars

That being the case, today Sarah Palin delivered a brilliant and unexpected message that completely took her hate filled enemies by complete surprise

She is removing herself as an excuse for the never ending attacks against the leader Alaskans chose when they voted their preference

Now, with this sacrifice, Palin creates a positive environment for Alaska politics to proceed without the demands of liberals to drain the state's coffers of money better spent on Alaska's real needs and priorities

Once again, Palin has dominated the National Conversation and leave her detractors, who were all set to corner her and taste her blood, madly barking at the moon

Back at you, determined. Actually, the lefty haters should be surprised at themselves. Such malice. It was especially on display during the past campaign season.

We're heading for a cookout and some Texas hold-em.

Huckabee is good for a TV show tonight, but not for President.

Rudy was good but we don't want the same.

Newt was good, is excellent in History but we don't want the same

All the Senators are out of the question, we don't want the same.

Romney yes and he should take Sarah again or viceversa. She has the spunk that the discreet and sober Romney doesn't have.

Outsmarting Her Tormentors Once Again

I think it's way too early to call this a successful move. We don't even yet know what she's going to do next or if she will succeed at it. We really don't know the full story and full reasoning behind this decision. Unless there really is some forthcoming scandal we don't know how this decision will really impact her in another campaign.

The perception that she quit when the going got tough could be extremely damaging to her in a campaign, but on the other hand her preferred image (reformer/outsider) is much easier to sell when you aren't actually part of the system. The question is... when it comes time for Palin to run again (if she does) will the outsider/reformer image be enough to overcome her track record?

There's a lot of wishful thinking on both sides of the fence here. Many liberals are wishfully thinking that this is the end of her political career. Many conservatives are wishfully thinking that she is somehow outsmarting her opponents and that this is the beginning of some brilliant strategic move towards the presidency. Could be, but until we see the strategy play out more it's impossible to tell.

In politics after all... just about anything is possible.

baconner - I think it's way too early to call this a successful move.

What we know about it so far is that nobody but Sara Palin could stop the 24/7 News Cycle in its tracks, totally dominate the airwaves and somehow the obsessive coverage of Michael Jackson came to a standstill, while talking heads with wagging tongues gossiped incessantly about what she did, why she did it. what it means, where it might lead, what else is there, what was there that we don't know, and what is next?

Yeah... just a minor blip on the screen...

Yeah... just a minor blip on the screen...

I didn't say that.

It could shape up to be a very important event, but dominating the 24/7 News Cycle does not indicate a succesful move just a very surprising one. As you point out Michael Jackson's death also dominated the news cycle. Something else could big could come along and have the same effect.

So far all she has done is started a lot of buzz. It remains to be seen if this is going to be good for her or not. I certianly wouldn't qualify it as outsmarting anyone at this point.

Politicians, being a very Narcissistic bunch, regard dominating the airwaves and talk shows as successful

Naturally, they would prefer the buzz to be positive, but rest assured there are thousands of politicians of all stripes grinding their teeth over Sarah Palin's success at dong the unexpected and attracting the attention and loyalty of millions they would dearly love to have for themselves

That is success... where it goes next, we shall see, but right now it is another clearly successful maneuver

Politicians, being a very Narcissistic bunch, regard dominating the airwaves and talk shows as successful

So you're asserting that she has won the narcissim game against other politicians that wish they could dominate the news cycle? No disagreements here! Her narcissm is fast reaching epic proportions imo.

I don't see how this equates to "outsmarting her tormetors." She's even given her tormentors more incentive and air time to go after her. Yesterday afternoon she released a letter threatening to sue bloggers who report rumors about her. If she thought quitting was going to make the rumors and the ethics complaints go away I'd call that a failure at least in the short term.

That is success... where it goes next, we shall see, but right now it is another clearly successful maneuver

I think we can only know if it was a successful tactic if we know what her goals were which we do not. That was my original point.

To steal a line from McCain... I suspect Palin doesn't understand the difference between a tactic and a strategy. She can make a big-media-boom, but if it doesn't move the ball forward toward her ultimate strategic goals then it's not a success.

What remains to be seen is what exactly here strategic goals are and how this impacts. We'll really only know once we know her goals. If it's the presidency I have strong doubts that this was a good move.

I watched several of the Sunday talk shows for the first time in several weeks as the discussed Palin and her Press Conference and subsequent announcement

My overwhelming conclusion as I watched each of them and their panel of Political Soothsayers, is that they just don't get it...

All of the comments were evaluating her and her decision in terms of what a traditional, run of the mill politician would do and how they would think about approaching a possible campaign and national candidacy

They honestly couldn't manage to will themselves to think out of the box or even comprehend that someone else can, or to faintly register they had a clue about what they were attempting to understand

The thing is, those who are fed up with politics as usual and the same old, same old from a bland and never-ending series of cardboard cutouts are genuinely stirred by te prospect of Palin as a fresh symbol off real hope & change, and not the empty rhetoric palmed off on them by Obama's Traveling Apology Tour of Merry Tax Cheats

When virtually everyone in a field "doesn't get" a move like this there are two potentials.

1. A dramatic paradigm shift is taking place and they are too entrenched in their existing worldview to understand it.

2. The move is actually a bad idea.

The vast majority of the time it's #2 and that's where I'm leaning, but like I said before anything is possible in politics.

What really has me baffled far more than Palin's quitting is the vehemence with which some are proclaiming this move a brilliant coup while omitting any details of what they think she's accomplished. We don't even know what her goals are.

Declaring that she's outsmarted her tormentors seems to me a declaration of victory before we even know the parameters of the battle. A mission accomplished if you will...

Can you think of any other candidate selected from relative obscurity as a cut & paste vice presidential candidate who so stirs the flaming loins of liberal blowtorches that even 8 months after the election loss, they are so rabidly spewing vitriol and hatred they just can't restrain themselves from foaming at the mere mention of her name?

That by itself is an amazing accomplishment that is worth tens of millions of dollars, which by the way, will soon find their way into Saucy Sarah's Savings Account

Declaring that she's outsmarted her tormentors seems to me a declaration of victory before we even know the parameters of the battle

As the dust settles on the field of battle, those who have been howling and snapping madly at her are finding themselves Dazed & Confused for so long its not true...

...they wanted a woman, never bargained for who

The bloodied battle site, littered with broken spears, spent arrows and dented shields are all that remains of a tumultuous onslaught against one lone female who not only survived, but remains strong, vital, healthy and victorious simply by not having bled to death from this neverending infliction of ten thousand cuts

Excellent article alanwillingham - thank you!

You could have not said it better, this will give Sarah the opportunity to finally fight on even footing. She did outsmart her tormentors and it's kinda fun to see how they just don't understand her tactics.

It's interesting that months after defeat, they are still talking about the opposition VP - I have never seen this before Sarah.

Let the fun start!

Please enlighten us as to how this will give her such an opportunity?

Sure, it'll be easier for her to throw rocks at the administration when she isn't part of the system herself, but this also gives her opponents ammunition to go after her as a quitter who enjoyed governing when the economy was good and bailed out when things got tough. If her goal is to hold another public office I don't see how this presents such clear strategic advantages as you seem to think it does.

    alan,

I'll tell you why the left is so afraid of Palin,,, because out of the 4 politicians that were running for office, she was truly the only one that was not a rich, polished politician, (something they tried to convince us that the chosen one was) and that scared them. In fact Obama is the best politician I've ever seen, even better than tricky dick and slick willy put together. Promise everyone everything....but as a lot of people are now finding out they were fooled. Palin is down to earth, not an elitist, and has problems, just like ordinary everyday people. Just like the (leftists) say they are. They say they wanted change and Palin was that real change that they campaigned on and that scared them.

Now I'm not saying she is presidental material, but she has been ruthlessly demonized by the left, hell just look how many articles there are about her.

What pisses me off the most is how low they have gone with her children. And please don't even try to condone this behavior, by saying she took them on the campaign trail with her and they are fair game. You're supposed to be full grown adults,, since when is child bashing o.k. So much for the peace loving, tree hugging left.

As far as her leaving office, I would like to ask all the blamers and all the people who are still going on about this "nowhere governor" if ANY one of you EVER left a job and went somewhere else to work,,, if so you must be quitters also....
